Private label shifts that risk to you. The factory still runs their standard QC, but anything beyond that—label verification, firmware version checks, packaging integrity, custom spec compliance—is your responsibility. Some distributors build inspection capability in-house. Others hire third-party firms. Either way, it's an added layer you're paying for.
Here's what surprised me after four years of reviewing these programs: private label quality failures are rarely caused by factories deliberately cutting corners. The bigger risk is small specification drift.

With private label, the end customer doesn't know the factory exists. Every failed unit, every RMA request, every angry phone call lands on your team. If the factory goes out of business or drags their feet on replacements, you're the face of that failure.
